Halloween in North Georgia is the one night a year when the whole neighborhood shows up in your backyard whether you invited them or not. Late October here means warm afternoons, cold evenings, and a real chance of rain rolling in off the ridge around dusk. That combination is exactly why a covered footprint stops being decoration and becomes the thing that saves the party. This guide is written by the crew that hauls, stakes and drapes these tents across Forsyth, Hall, Jackson, Barrow and Gwinnett counties every October, and it walks through the three package sizes we install most, how to pair a bounce house with them, and what actually goes wrong when people skip the planning.
The three Halloween packages we install most
After several seasons of October installs, three footprints cover almost every backyard we visit. They are not arbitrary: they match the tent frames we own, the number of round tables that fit under each one without cramping the walkways, and the amount of drape and lighting the structure can carry.
Enchanted Night — 20x20 tent
The 20x20 is the intimate option: one family, the cousins, a handful of neighbors. Four 60-inch round tables fit comfortably with chairs pulled out, or you can drop to three tables and open a corner for the candy station and the costume-photo backdrop. In October we usually drape the four legs, run warm string lighting across the peak, and let the decor do the theatrical work rather than the structure. If your guest list is under roughly forty people and the kids are going to spend most of the evening running the yard instead of sitting, this is the size to start with.
Mystic Glow — 20x30 tent
This is the workhorse. Six round tables plus a serving line along one long wall, which is what most Halloween parties actually need: somewhere to sit, somewhere to eat, and enough covered space that a twenty-minute shower does not end the night. The extra ten feet over the 20x20 is what gives you a real dance or games area in the middle instead of a walkway. Most of the Halloween setups you will see in our gallery are built on this footprint.
Haunted Elegance — 20x40 tent
Forty feet is where the setup starts feeling like a venue instead of a backyard. Eight to nine round tables, a full buffet wall, a lounge corner, and enough ceiling to carry chandeliers, draping and a lit entrance. It is also the size families choose when a Halloween party doubles as a birthday — which happens constantly in the last week of October — because there is room for a themed backdrop that photographs well without stealing the dining space.
One note from experience: tents combine, but not in every arithmetic you can imagine. A 20x50 is not something we can build from the frames we carry; a 20x40 alongside a 20x20 gives you a 20x60 run instead. If you are chasing a specific length, ask before you plan the layout, because the honest answer changes the decor list too — more legs to drape, more ceiling to light, and usually one more chandelier.
Sizing your tent by guest count, not by yard size
The most common mistake we see is measuring the lawn and ordering the biggest tent that fits. Guest count and seating style are what matter. For seated dining with round tables, plan roughly twelve to fifteen square feet per person once you account for chairs, aisles and a serving line. For a standing, mingling party you can push to eight or ten. So a 20x30 seats about sixty comfortably for dinner but handles closer to eighty for a cocktail-style Halloween party where half the guests are on their feet with a drink.
Then subtract for everything that is not a person: a dessert table, a drinks station, a DJ or speaker stack, a backdrop, a cauldron of candy. Each one eats a table's worth of floor. Tell us the guest count and the list of stations and we will size the footprint around both instead of guessing.
Add the bounce house — and put it outside the tent
Halloween parties in this area are overwhelmingly family parties, which means the kids need their own territory or they will annex yours. A bounce house is the single highest-return add-on we rent in October.
The plain white castle is the one we recommend when the theme is going to be built with decor, because it takes color beautifully. Balloon garlands, themed signage and a lit entrance turn the same unit into whatever the party needs.
Two practical rules. First, the bounce house goes on open lawn beside the tent, never under it — the blower needs clearance, the unit needs stake room, and children exiting at speed should not be aiming at a table of glassware. Second, it needs a grounded outdoor outlet within reach or a generator; on a long backyard run this is the detail that gets discovered on install day, so measure the distance from the nearest exterior outlet before the date.
Rain, cold and the Georgia October evening
A late-October evening here can drop into the forties after a seventy-degree afternoon. Sidewalls are the fix for both wind and temperature, and they are the cheapest upgrade in the entire order relative to what they save. We can install walls on any of the three footprints, on as many sides as you want; two closed sides is the most common request, usually whichever sides face the prevailing wind and the neighbors.
On lighting: if your party runs in daylight — a lot of kids' Halloween parties run from late morning to mid-afternoon — skip the LED ceiling wash and the chandeliers. They read as nothing at noon. Paper lanterns hold the theme in daylight far better and cost less. If the party crosses sunset, invert that advice completely; the ceiling lighting is what makes every photo taken after dark look intentional.
We install outdoors only, within roughly forty miles of Pendergrass, and we do not require a deposit to hold a date while you decide. Grass, gravel and flat driveways all work; we stake into turf and use weights on hard surfaces.
A timeline that keeps October calm
Halloween weekend is the single most concentrated demand window of our year, tighter even than graduation season, because everyone wants the same Friday and Saturday. Four to six weeks out, lock the date and the tent footprint. Three weeks out, settle decor direction, linen colors and whether you want walls. Two weeks out, finalize guest count so table and chair counts are right. The week of, we confirm the install window and the access route for the trailer.
